Noëlle Pujol is an artist and filmmaker. Born in 1972, she grew up in the Pyrenees near the
border between France and Spain. After obtaining a Master’s degree in Art History at the
University of Toulouse-Mirail, she continued her studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and at the Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains.
Her work is centred around film, but also images, drawings, and photography, and it creates
a simple and uncluttered visual universe that combines strength and excitement, mischief and gravity, and a sense of wonder that opens up new horizons. Often the origin of her work is a place, a context, or people she meets.
Her diverse films combine investigative and autobiographical elements while questioning
society’s intimate and collective issues. She uses a form of cinema and image that is anchored in a profound, romantic narrative and embraces new manners of exploring the realm of video and documentary filmmaking.
She has made a number of short and feature films that have been screened at international
festivals and cultural institutions.
Over the past ten years, she has had exhibitions at numerous venues, including Le Jeu Paume, Paris; La Terrasse, Espace art de Nanterre, HEAD, Geneva; Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton, Paris; the Bischoff/Weiss gallery, London; IAC, Villeurbanne; and MABA, Nogent-sur-Marne.
Her films have been screened at festivals such as FIDMarseille; Cinéma du Réel; the Locarno Film Festival; IndieLisboa; the Rome Film Festival; and FICUNAM Mexico.
In 2020, she was awarded Le Prix Occitanie-Médicis in recognition of her achievements as an artist.
In 2022, she began a residency at the Paul Vaillant Couturier school in Bobigny to develop an artistic project with a group of young children based on the musical world of Rachid Taha.
She is currently developing her new fiction film Boum ! Boum ! in the heart of the Saint-Ouen
flea market.
